Emmy Award Nominations Spotlight ’Cats On and Off Camera

The Television Academy’s nominees for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards include high-profile School of Communication alumni as well as a current faculty member.

  • Greg Berlanti (C94) as executive producer of The Flight Attendant, which received nine nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series
  • Ashley Nicole Black (GC08) for Outstanding Writing for Variety Sketch Series for both The Amber Ruffin Show and A Black Lady Sketch Show—with the latter series, for which Robin Thede (Medill01) is creator and executive producer, receiving five nominations, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series
  • Zach Braff (C97) for Outstanding Director for a Comedy Series for the Ted Lasso episode “Biscuits”
  • Stephen Colbert (C86, H11) for Outstanding Variety or Talk Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series as host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) as the host of Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand Building Back America Great Again Better 2020 (EMMY WINNER); and for Outstanding Short Form Comedy for Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News
  • Jenny Hagel (GC09) for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for The Amber Ruffin Show
  • Kathryn Hahn (C95) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Agatha Harkness on WandaVision
  • Patrick Hogan (C92) for Best Sound Editing in a Half-Hour Comedy or Drama as the sound supervisor for Netflix’s Cobra Kai
  • Seth Meyers (C96) for Outstanding Short Form Comedy for Late Night with Seth Meyers: Corrections
  • Amanda Krieg Thomas (C07) for Outstanding Musical Supervision for the Halston episode “The Party’s Over”
  • Marco Williams, professor of radio/television/film, for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program for Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre

Nominated programs also included Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special with Meghan Markle (C03) and Friends: The Reunion with David Schwimmer (C88).
